1. Delhi: record turnout of 65.13 per cent registered in Assembly polls
i. Breaking all records, Delhi registered the highest-ever voter turnout of 65.13 per cent in the Assembly polls with men and women coming out in almost equal numbers to exercise their franchise, Delhi's Election Commission said today.
ii. In 2008 Assembly polls, the overall voting percentage was 57.58 while in 1993, it was 61.75 per cent. Out of 1.19 crore eligible voters, over 77.7 lakh people exercised their franchise yesterday. The number of first-time eligible voters is 4.05 lakh.
iii. Creating history, 65.48 per cent men and 64.68 women cast their ballot in the three-cornered contest among Congress, BJP and debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
iv. The highest turnout was recorded in the Seemapuri seat (72.19 per cent), while the lowest polling was in Ballimaran with 56.20 per cent.
v. A total of 810 candidates are in the fray. Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on December 8.
2. India to set up HVDC transmission line with Nepal, Bhutan
i. India is working to set up an energy efficient power transmission line (HVDC) with Nepal and Bhutan as part of its energy security plans, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said.
ii. India also hopes to have power transmission connectivity with ASEAN and SAARC countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Myanmar, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said on Thursday while addressing the World Energy Policy Summit 2013 in New Delhi.
iii. India has been working for the last few years to put in place a multilateral SAARC Market for Electricity (SAME) and has plans to set up a larger SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) transmission grid.
iv. In October, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had dedicated to the nation the 71-km Baharampur-Bheramara HVDC transmission link, which connected electricity grids of India and Bangladesh.
v. As far as Bhutan is concerned, India's transmission link with that country is already in place.
